Gehry Loggia Building in downtown Culver City

This Culver City Gehry Loggia building is located in Culver City (3939 Landmark Street) on a cul-de-sac off Washington Blvd. The Loggia was created by Frank Gehry, one of the world's best known and most sought after designers, who has won numerous prizes and awards (Pritzker Prize 1989), and Christopher Ward, a Los Angeles-based architect and artist who has won numerous awards for his work.

A concrete tilt-up warehouse used to be located in the Loggia. Its concrete facade has been covered in wood with a loggia separating it from its outer glass front. The design of this structure softened its hard edges. There are glass trees attached to the outside walls that seem to float. As the lights dim in the evening, the Loggia appears to glow. For Park Century School in Culver City, this 47000 square foot warehouse was gutted and redesigned.

Children at the Park Century School typically have language-based learning issues, most commonly dyslexia, and oft times ADHD as well. The school has 12 large classrooms, six small-group rooms and 12 tutoring rooms designed especially for students with varied daily schedules. As much as possible, Mr. Ward kept the layout simple with no curves or angles, reduced hallway noise so as not to disrupt classes, and created a parents' lounge in an area separate from the school's main thoroughfare.
