Biking In Culver City

Children biking

Culver City is a great place to ride a bike, and the City is constantly working to improve it.

As part of our effort to improve biker accessibility and safety, more on-street bike lanes are added each year to assist bikers in getting around town more easily and safely.

The city's active improvement projects include safer routes and safe walking and biking programs for residents and students.

Bicycle and Pedestrian Action Plan

It is the Public Works Department's responsibility to develop and implement the Culver City Bicycle and Pedestrian Action Plan, which was adopted by the City Council in 2020.

The Bicycle and Pedestrian Action Plan can be viewed here.

The Ballona Creek Bike Path follows the channelized Ballona Creek for 7 miles from Syd Kronenthal Park in east Culver City (National Boulevard) to the Pacific Ocean, where it joins Santa Monica Beach and South Bay Bike Paths.

Bicycle Traffic Signals

Several bicycle traffic signals have been installed along Culver and Washington Boulevards as part of Move Culver City.

CA-MUTCD 4D.104 allows bicycle signal faces to be used at signalized intersections. CA-MUTCD stipulates that the bicycle's signal face may not conflict with any other motor vehicle movement, including right turns on red. This means that when the bicycle light is green, a cyclist has an exclusive, protected phase to proceed through the intersection, and when the bicycle light is red, a cyclist should stop as other vehicle movements (right and left turns across the bike path) are allowed.
