It is hard to imagine where you would find a storybook cottage like one straight out of a fairy tale in Culver City, the heart of Screenland. The Hobbit Houses were built by Lawrence Joseph. The whimsical cottages were built by Mr. Joseph over a twenty-four-year period (1946 to 1970). A European cottage style was interpreted to create the unusual look. In his previous life, Joseph worked at Walt Disney Studios. As a talented artist, he worked both at Disney Studios in Culver City and Lockheed (in Burbank) on classified aircraft design projects. The project consisted of renovating an existing single-family residence and adding two additional buildings (2 story multiple units). A skilled carpenter and sailor, his work is evident in the nautically themed interiors of these three buildings.

A rental agreement for the main house is currently available for $2595 per month. A home like this would be so magical and whimsical every day. The lease term is one year, with one month's rent as the security deposit. A parking space is included and pets are not allowed.
